PTA Eligibility Changes
The MIUSA Board of Directors voted recently to no longer allow PTAs to attend the Parts C and D courses, even with a letter from a McKenzie Certified MDT PT. Following the tenets of the APTA and AAOMPT positions, the advanced curriculum of these courses delves further into evaluation and a progression of forces to mobilization and manipulation, which, according to the APTA Guide to Physical Therapist Practice, are procedures performed exclusively by a physical therapist and thereby fall beyond the purview of the PTA. Over 150 Patients Treated in Uganda
In early March 2018, Jill Boorman, PT, Cert. MDT, Clinical Director and Owner of Premier Physical Therapy in North Charleston, SC, set out on her annual medical mission trip to Uganda. The team that she met up with in Uganda was organized through Seacoast Church and included clinicians from all over the US. 2016 Spine 10x25 Summit

The Institute's International Education Committee has prepared a "MDT Education Update" to help ensure all clinicians are aware of recent changes in MDT terminology. Curriculum changes have been made accordingly starting in January 2015.

A core group of MDT Diplomates are coordinating efforts to establish an Educational Interest Group (EIG) in the Orthopaedic Section of the APTA as a first step to be considered for a Special Interest Group recognized by the APTA.

Dr. Gill, former Director of the Army-Baylor University Doctoral Fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy and currently the Deputy Director of the Army-Baylor University Entry-Level DPT Program, was nominated by several of his former Fellows for his dedication to and influence on the development of a new generation of orthopaedic manual physical therapists.
Ron Schenk, PT, PHD, OCS, Dip. MDT, FAAOMPT preceded Skip with this outstanding honor in 2011. Dr. Schenk is currently Dean of the Division of Health and Human Services and an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at Daemen College in Amherst, NY and Director of our Fellowship Program in MDT.

We are delighted to announce that the Celebrity PT Podcast featured in the November 2012 issue of the APTA Student Assembly Pulse, conducted by Director, Samantha Letizio, PT, DPT, features our own Robin McKenzie! This interview was a result of student feedback Ms. Letizio received about PTs who have inspired them or they’d like to meet. Robin was quick to accept the invitation, and although the initial logistics connecting from Boston to New Zealand were challenging with Skype not offering the best quality, the interview was deemed a great success. Dan Vaughn appointed new Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of JMMT
MIUSA is pleased to announce Maney Publishing's selection of Dr. Dan Vaughn, PT, PhD, FAAOMPT, as the new Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Manual & Manipulative Therapy (JMMT). Dr Vaughn will succeed Dr. Chad Cook, who has provided six years of service and strong leadership to the journal. Dan will work alongside Chad in 2012 before assuming full duties for the first issue of 2013. Chad will continue to sit on the Editorial Board of the journal and work as a reviewer.
