Prerequisite: Completion of a Part C or higher.

This extremely interactive masterclass has been designed to emphasize the application of MDT to the athletic and sporting population. Discussion will focus on the role of MDT in sports medicine and the challenges of the current model of sports medicine. Case studies will be presented and practical sessions addressing the various key principles of MDT will be included to give examples of applying these principles. Return to sport testing, including MDT and traditional methods, will be instructed and participants will demonstrate all tests and interpret findings. This course is intended for clinicians who have experience using MDT for both spine and extremities with interest in and a basic understanding of the principles of sports medicine and sports physiotherapy

Upon completion of this masterclass, participants will be able to utilize and promote Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) in the examination, intervention and management of patients presenting with sports related musculoskeletal injuries, pain and limited function.

Instructor: Joshua Kidd, PT, DPT, OCS, SCS, Dip. MDT, CSCS, FAAOMPT graduated from Eastern Washington University with a Bachelors in Human Biology (2004) and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (2007). He became Credentialed in MDT in 2009 and attained Diploma status in 2011. He completed his CSCS in 2006, OCS in 2008, a Masters in OMPT in 2016, and SCS in 2023. Josh also successfully completed the Daemen College Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship program and was granted Fellowship in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy in 2016 and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Science from Bellin College. He was appointed to Faculty with The McKenzie Institute in 2018.

Outside of his MDT teaching obligations, Josh is Adjunct Faculty in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Tufts University School of Medicine. He also serves as the Program Director for the MIUSA Orthopaedic Residency Program and a mentor for the MIUSA Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship Program. Josh presents the concepts of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy at conferences both nationally and internationally, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy, Oregon State NSCA Conference, Kaiser Fellowship Program seminars and both Americas Region and International MDT Conferences.
